Well, the second trimester is here and my belly popped out SO fast. I had bought some clothes for the “inbetween phase” where I am just a little bigger, but don’t look pregnant yet. I didn’t even get to wear them. I woke up one morning and suddenly had a preggo belly. This is my 3rd pregnancy, so my body just knew what to do, I guess!
We text with the IPs a few times a week usually, keeping up on each other’s lives and giving updates with how I’m feeling. I still can’t eat a lot of different foods, but the baby has decided she likes grilled cheese. I can’t get enough of it!
Now that I’m showing, people have started asking questions. At first, I would explain the situation, but now it depends on the situation. If it is someone we know we’re going to see again (other parents from my daughter’s dance academy etc), we tell them, that way they aren’t wondering where the baby went after I deliver. For strangers however, our response varies. If they ask simple questions such as my due date or gender, I just answer them and smile and say thank you when they congratulate me. Not wanting to get into involved conversations with everyone. If someone asks more questions though, such as how many kids I have, if this is my first, what we’re going to name her, etc then I go into it. Most people are very receptive to it and think it’s great, but there is a surprising amount of people who don’t seem to understand how surrogacy works.
The IPs weren’t able to come up for my 20 week ultrasound due to illness, so that was a bummer, but they did come up and visit for my 24 week ultrasound. It was nice to spend some time with them and I think that being at the ultrasound in person was helpful for us all.
