This was the most highly anticipated part for me; meeting with a potential match was nerve-wracking. It’s almost like a job application: pick me, pick me! I couldn’t wait to find out who I would be carrying for and hear their story. I am emotional when it comes to hearing why someone might need to take on this path; I feel for them and hope I can bond with them in a way that makes their possible first time as expecting parent(s) amazing. When speaking with the possible match, it was like a “match at first sight.” We enjoyed talking, had the same things we both wanted and were open to things that would come later in the journey. I had questions written down for them as I took this part extremely seriously, and they answered them all as I had hoped. You’re with these IPs for the rest of the journey, and it’s important to ensure you will get along and be able to compromise or speak about things that may be uncomfortable. There are hopes and expectations on both ends, and I wanted to ensure we had similar or the same, so no one was disappointed. After a couple of days, we were officially matched with them! My best advice to anyone going through this phase is that it’s important to be yourself and search for what you want; some IPs want the same thing! Since we got their contact information, we speak weekly and schedule phone calls/zooms to talk.
